lettuce on the negotiations. >> it is desperation time on capitol hill. at the white house and the vice- president joe biden is playing a direct role in the talks. those crucial talks will resume here on capitol hill today. it is truly the 11th hour as millions of americans will ring in the new year tonight. with a countdown of a different kind living, this deadline that is to have drastic cuts in domestic and military spending and tax increases. the president is trying to broker a deal that would at least reserve tax rates on families with income under $250,000 and extend expiring unemployment benefits. republicans are adamant about keeping the estate tax from going up. over the weekend, a glimmer of hope, but some calling a false hope. republicans did offer something put something on the table, but democrats never countered with their own offer. if there is no deal, we're not

said the paper was not making any money. about 70 employees there lost their jobs. a little good news, the times committed the media group who has other local newspapers in northern virginia will launch the prince william times on january 9. the northern virginia media services group will take over the insidenova.com website. thicken still read their news online. >> the sandy hook shooting renews the debate over guns in america. president obama pledged to put his full weight behind legislation aimed at preventing violence. he does not agree with the in our proposal to put armed guards in schools. >> i'm skeptical the only answer is putting more guns in schools. i think the vast majority of the american people are skeptical. -- skeptical that that will somehow solve our problem.
